Let Magic Happen

I have a friend up in North Carolina, Larry Burk, MD, whose slogan is, “Let Magic Happen.” This phrase was at the end of his emails when I met him in 2006, and he now has a website, a book, a Facebook page, and a Twitter page. The subtitle of his book and website is “Adventures in Healing with a Holistic Radiologist.” I love when science and spirituality meet, and I’ll be writing more about that in future posts. Think left brain – right brain, yang – yin, logic – intuition. Balance. That’s a good place to be.

Note: if you’re interested in the boundaries of science, I’d definitely read a book called The Field by Lynne McTaggart. It’s mind-blowing. She’s very gifted in that she can understand complex science and write about it in a very understandable way. Definitely check your beliefs at the door, too – beliefs about what’s possible and how the world works. Those beliefs will still be there if you want them. Back to the story…

I don’t know Larry well, but we met Larry at The Monroe Institute’s Gateway Voyage Program back in 2006. The slang term for this program would be “Consciousness Camp.” It was pretty cool. Basically, people who want to have an out-of-body experience go there. I was one of those people (I didn’t have one, but it was an amazing time overall). Robert Monroe, who passed away in 1995, can be thought of as one of the fathers of the out-of-body experience (OBE). He was a very logical, straight-up businessman who was not religious or woo-woo at all, and he started having experiences of floating up to the ceiling while he was sleeping, looking at his sleeping body below. But it was him up there by the ceiling. It was him, in full-blown waking consciousness. This was in 1958, when there was no internet or influx of Eastern knowledge. He went to doctors, and they all told him he was fine. And he knew he was not insane. Since he had no answers and knew there was nothing wrong with him, he decided to just go with it and experiment. The results are mind-blowing, to say the least. He wrote three books, beginning with the 1971 landmark Journeys Out of the Body. Back to the story… and I know I say that a lot… there sure are lots of great side stories within this material…

So Larry and I were at Monroe Institute (TMI) together for a week. We all exchanged emails, so I’ve kept up with what he’s been doing. Check out his stuff – it might help open your mind to a world that works a lot more magically than we might think. And his focus is on healing and intuition, which are great things. And he’s a trained scientist who hasn’t abandoned his logical way of thinking. I like that.

Aside from letting you know about Larry’s work, I wanted to introduce you to the phrase, “Let Magic Happen” because it ties in with what my work is all about. When we do the inner work that we talk about here at A Clean Mind, outer changes seem to happen sometimes in ways that can only be described as magical. I’ve experienced this myself, and now I’m seeing it in my clients’ lives. Inner first, outer second (read Inner vs. Outer). It’s the faster way. We can never expect outer changes, though – that’s the tricky part. Release all that you can, including the desire to have certain changes in your outer world. It’s the opposite of what we normally do, but it works much better. You can only experiment yourself, though, and see what happens. When you do this, you just might let some magic happen…
